You Like Me, You Really Like Me!

May 29, 2012

This is a shocking flash of color in a very black and white blog, much like finding out that this very organized time-centric piece received a nomination for the Creative Chaos Award by Notsofancynancy. Her blog is a fascinating look  at the same time period, following her father (and family’s) time during World War II through his detailed letters and the love of the family which kept them all this time.  I’m still feeling my way through the blogging experience.  This acknowledgement is a much-appreciated pat on the back.

So according to the tradition, nominees for the Creative Chaos Award have to answer a few questions.  So, my apologies to Al, if I take the time today to answer these instead:

The first is to share three weird things that I do:

Number One.  I have a sound-track in my mind.  A random word in any conversation will have a related song running in my mind and sometimes I just have to sing some part of it aloud.  I don’t remember every word to every song but I can still sing the song my father sang as he taught me to tie my shoes. (Mairzy doats and dozy doats (translation:  Mares Eat Oats and Does Eat Oats))

Number Two. I love old books.  There’s something almost sacred about a book published over 100 years ago, or even a textbook used in the 1940s or 1950s to teach children to read.  Most precious:  my grandfather’s Bible in which he made notations and extra details of family history. Despite this, I own and use a Nook.

Number Three.  I love trains.  I love the clickety-clack of the cars as the pass in the night, especially.  I am almost childlike in how I roll down the window to watch and listen , no matter whether they’re carrying either passengers or cargo.

Second, I am to say why I look at the “glass half-full” scenario and ask “What? No coffee?”  Well, I think it has to do with being satisfied.  I actually am a very optimistic person, definitely a “glass half-full” kind of person.  But while I’m optimistic, I’m also usually always looking for what comes next or what might be better.  While I do love coffee, you can bet that I’m looking for Bailey’s Irish Cream instead.

Third Task: You find yourself in a desolate place when your car breaks down. You have no cellphone service, no Wal-Mart, and only a candy bar for food. It is 150 miles to the closest town.  What color are you underpants and why?

Its not the color of the underpants but the condition that matters and they are clean and new so my mother would be satisfied.  The color that matters is that of the wine packed away in my emergency kit in the trunk of my car.  It is red, either a pinot noir or a nice merlot, which perfectly compliment the dark chocolate and , in my opinion, constitutes a well-rounded meal.  I’ll be fine until help comes along.

Lastly, Nominate 5 people who recently followed your blog:

  • Kerry Kenney  of AZSoap  (I love the various facets she explores)
  • A Girl Called Emily (her experiences for her young age move me, sometimes touching, sometimes funny)
  • Libby Leverett-Crew of The View is Great (photography, insight and humor)
  • Sheryl Lazarus of A Hundred Years Ago (loved the two elderly sisters)
  • Fork in my Eye (especially the recent abandoned places photography)

Congratulations!  Each of you have inspired, educated and touched me.  I appreciated your interest in Al’s War: One Man’s Journey Through World War 2.  I hope you have fun spreading the creative chaos.
